Shelter Caregiver

Who We Are

CCR was founded in 2001 to help find lifelong, loving homes for homeless dogs in Chicagoland and beyond. To date, we have proudly saved the lives of over 8,000 dogs and puppies.  The dogs in our care come to us from open-intake animal shelter facilities, from a handful of rural partners who lack the resources for adoptions, and from families who can no longer care for them. Our team provides medical treatment, emotional and behavioral support, and adoption services to each animal that comes into our care.

We provide a safe landing place for dogs of all ages, sizes, and backgrounds, and we work tirelessly to match them with their perfect family.

What We Do

There’s hardly a dull moment at CCR and the kennel staff is always on their feet to ensure not only that the dogs are receiving necessary care, but that the facility itself is properly maintained. It can be difficult for the staff to balance everything that needs to be done each day, so we rely heavily on volunteers to assist with some of the basic cleaning and maintenance of the facility.

When volunteering inside the shelter as a Caregiver you’ll be responsible for cleaning and folding laundry, dishes, preparing meals for the animals, cleaning kennels, sweeping/mopping and other custodial tasks as requested by CCR staff. We try to keep the grossest chores limited to the staff, but please be aware that the shelter environment is inherently loud and smelly!

Must be at least 18+ years of age.
